Coimbatore: Days after Simplicity reported the plight of Coimbatore people suffering over the shortage of vaccines, the department of health and services takes up alternative vaccination camps in part of the district, eyeing more beneficiaries.
The district has been hit hardly by the lack of vaccines which resulted in halt of camps multiple times. However, with the eagerness of public to vaccinate against Covid, it is found that many turned back without getting jabs.
Earlier, SimpliCity had highlighted the absence of vaccination camps in rural areas of Perur, followed by action by officials.
However, now the officials have taken steps to further ramp up vaccination camps in order to vaccinate more by opting alternative day vaccination camps in corporation areas and rest of the district like Pollachi, Annur, Periyanaickenpalayam etc.
The department has been involved in organizing camps at parts of the district, vaccinating more people. But, it is also found that many people are being left out.
Now to ensure more beneficiaries, the department has taken up steps to organise camps on alternative days across parts of the district rather than just the city corporation limit.
Sources in the department say it will benefit more people in this new method as it helps them vaccinating at least over 400 doses with the availability of stocks. Earlier, the sources say, only 200 doses have been given per Centre.
Eight lakh people have been administered the covid-19 jabs in the district so far.
