Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Government managed to procure over 4,00,000 Covid vaccine doses on Tuesday evening, just hours after the State Government announced that it will be halting vaccination drives from June 3 since vaccines are out of stock.
As many as 4,20,570 Covishield vaccines and 75,000 Covaxin vaccines have reportedly reached Chennai, this evening. Thus far, the State has received 1,01,00,000 vaccine doses. Of this, 90,50,000 people in the State have been vaccinated.
While this came as a respite since the State can now vaccinate people for the next few days, the district administration in Coimbatore has announced that the vaccine stock has run dry and hence there will be no vaccination drives in the district.
Coimbatore district has been in the news for daily increase in fresh Covid cases but however managed to be the second district to have vaccinated more people in the State. The shortage of vaccine stock puts people in the district at risk since private hospitals that were handling vaccination drives earlier have suspended the vaccinations too, according to a doctor from IMA branch, Coimbatore.
Meanwhile, the number of fresh Covid cases in the district has started reducing with the total Covid positive rates declining. The district recorded 3,332 fresh cases as on Tuesday, while active cases stood at 40,570.
