In a fight against COVID-19, parts of the country is now all set to receive Covishield, a vaccine for the Covid-19, developed both by Serum Institute of Virology in Pune and Bharat Bio-tech.

As many as 13 locations, including Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the country are oikely to receive the vaccine consignments, today.

State Health Secretary Radhakrishnan, in a press meet said that nearly 5,56,500 Covishield vaccines are likely to be in Chennai on or before 11 am today. Of the 5,56,500 covishield vaccines, Serum Institute of Virology in Pune alone provides 5,36,500 vaccines and Bharat Bio-tech the remaining, he added.

“Once we receive the vaccine at the Chennai airport, we will be sending it across to all the ten regional vaccination sites, from where it will be dispatched to all the ear-marked districts. At present, 51 godowns are ready to store the vaccine with at least four cold chain vehicles in hand. Each cold chain designated vehicle has the ability to store six lakh doses", he added.
