Gandhi Jayanti Day is observed annually on October 2. On that day, the Tamil Nadu government banned the slaughter of goats, cows and chickens and the sale of meat.
Therefore, the closure of mutton, beef, poultry and pork shops in the areas under the Corporation of Coimbatore. Also the slaughterhouses of Ukkadam, Singanallur, Sathy Road, Podanur, Thudiyalur and 10 Corporation slaughterhouses will not be functioning on that day.
The corporation commissioner and special officer Kumaravel Pandian warned that stern action will be taken by the corporation authorities against those who violate this order.
