Coimbatore: "No leniency will be showed on those who defy home quarantine and roam around. Instead, such violators will be booked under criminal cases", warned District Collector K Rajamani at the review meeting held on Thursday here.

During an elaborate review meeting held today at the District Collectorate with top officials of various departments including Corporation, Police and Health, the Collector cautioned that criminal cases would be booked against those violating home quarantine rules.

"Those who defy home quarantine and roam in public places possibly could expose hundreds of people to the novel coronavirus. Despite stringent orders asking people who travel from other cities, states, countries to quarantine themselves at their homes for 14 days, several complaints of such people roaming around freely in public places are reported. The administration would show zero tolerance against such violators and initiate criminal action against them", Collector K Rajamani warned.

He noted that while officials are working day and night to prevent an outbreak of the virus in the district, such violations cannot be tolerated. Hence, public are requested to report such violators to 1077 toll free number.

Those advised to be under home quarantine are not allowed to step out of their house, the Collector added.

It may be noted several public had expressed their concern over such people who roam around defying home quarantine. The public noted that they were clueless on how to reach out to officials to complain of such people who recklessly step out of their house and possibley infect others. Based on several complaints and rising COVID cases due to contact of people with travel history, the public have welcomed the District Administration's announcement of stringent criminal action on such violators.
