Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s Department of Agronomy - AICRP Weed Management Unit observed the ‘Parthenium Awareness Week 2023’ between 16th and 22nd August 2023, under the guidance of ICAR, Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, to create awareness among different stakeholders about the ill effect of the obnoxious weed parthenium and how to manage this weed. In this connection, a series of programmes were conducted.

Dr.M.K.Kalarani, Director (Crop Management), TNAU, Coimbatore has inaugurated the Parthenium awareness campaign at TNAU main campus and Dr.P.Parasuraman, Professor and Head, Department of Agronomy has also participated. The Director (Crop Management) emphasized the scientists and farm workers to adopt management strategies to control parthenium and make parthenium free campus. In the different programs organized, the ill effects of parthenium and its management through integrated approach and composting of parthenium were explained to the farmers, school students, field officers, farm labourers and sanitary workers.
Dr.S. Radhamani, Professor and PI, AICRP-WM, Dr.C.Bharathi, Associate Professor (SS&AC), Department of Agronomy coordinated and organized the programme. Dr.P.Balasubramanian, SRF, R.Deepika, SRF and A. Kanakaraj, AAO were involved in conducting the above programmes.
