20000 banana plants damaged due to heavy winds near Sultanpet

Rains accompanied by heavy winds hit the Sultanpet union. Farmers from Vadambacheri and Senjeriputhur cultivated and propagated 20000 Nendran bananas, which were damaged due to heavy winds.


Coimbatore: About 300 acres of banana plants have been cultivated in Sultanpet Union including Vadambacheri, Senjeriputhur and Senjerimalai.

The cultivated bananas are harvested in 10 months. In this case, rains accompanied by heavy winds hit the Sultanpet union. Subsequently, farmers from Vadambacheri and Senjeriputhur cultivated and propagated 20000 Nendran bananas, which were damaged due to heavy winds. With just about a month left for harvest, their plants were damaged causing a heavy loss to the farmers.

Following this, the Sultanpet Locality Horticulture Department Assistant Officers Saikannan & Dinakaran along with Mandirasalam and Prasanth, Village Administrative officers of Vadambacheri and Senjeriputhur inspected the affected areas.

An official report was filed to direct it to the district Horticulture Department and the Disaster management for the provision of relief funds for the affected farmers.
