TNAU hosts two-day seminar on 'Scientific bee keeping'

Bee is a wonder creature and the speaker requested the bee keepers to create demand for honey and create awareness among the farmers.


Coimbatore: The inaugural function of two days district level seminar on “Scientific bee keeping” sponsored by National Bee Board, New Delhi, was conducted on 01.02.23 by Department of Agricultural Entomology, Centre for Plant Protection studies, TNAU, Coimbatore.

Scientist fraternity from TNAU, Executive Director from Government of India-National Bee Board, Extension officials from State Department of Agriculture, progressive bee keepers, honey processeors and entrepreneurs were roped in for the programme for the aim of gaining a better insight into the subject of scientific beekeeping.

The function was presided by Dr.R.Thamizh Vendan, Registrar, TNAU. He described bee as a wonder creature and requested the bee keepers to create demand for honey and create awareness among the farmers.

The function was inaugurated by Dr.N.K.Patle, Executive Director, National Bee Board, New Delhi who steered the discussion along the desired path.

In his speech, Dr.Patle stressed on quality honey with producers own branding and value added products.

Dr.M.Shanthi, Director, Centre for Plant Protection Studies gave the introductory speech about the purpose of the seminar.

Dr.S.V.Krishnamoorthy, Professor and Head, Dept. of Agricultural Entomology welcomed the gathering. Dr.V.Balasubramani, Controller of Examinations, TNAU and Mrs.M.Bhuvaneswari, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Coimbatore felicitated the program.

Dr.M.R.Srinivasan, Professor of Entomology and co- ordinator of the program delivered the vote of thanks.



Through this seminar, various stakeholders had a glimpse and insight into scientific methods of beekeeping.

The seminar was taken up as TNAU venture of colloborative problem solving and promoting agribusiness in scientific lines.
