Tirupur: A petition has been filed with the Periyar Anna statue on behalf of the Social Justice Alliance in Tirupur, demanding that the Tamil Nadu government make a formal reservation after the 10.5 per cent reservation given to a particular community has been suspended and a caste-based survey has to be conducted.

The Social Justice Coalition has filed a petition to the statue of Anna and Periyar near the Tirupur railway station. In the petition, it was mentioned that “no government that has ruled Tamil Nadu for the last 40 years has made an internal quota of less than 20 per cent of the quota for the most backward classes. It was passed by the previous AIADMK government in a hurry and was re-ordered by the present DMK government and the law is now being implemented in the field of education.
Putting aside the class-based reservation stated in the Constitution, the caste-based reservation is unconstitutional. The Government of Tamil Nadu should make proper reservation after 10.5 percent reservation was given to a particular community and without conducting the caste survey, to ensure social justice.
They staged a protest in front of Periyar Anna statue in front of the Tirupur railway station demanding that the MBC, which has no internal quota, should continue with the 20 per cent caste survey.
