Google is apparently working on a larger, stereo speaker version of the Google Home called the Home “Max,” according to a report from 9to5Google.
Details on the device are currently slim. 9to5Google is reporting that the device is a larger and more expensive member of the Google Home line, with a “premium” design meant to take on products like the Sonos Play:3. Apple’s own high-end smart speaker, the HomePod, which is set to be released later this year, can presumably be added to that list. The other concrete piece of information is apparently that the device has stereo speakers, which should offer a significant sound quality improvement over the Home.
A smaller Google Home Mini device leaked earlier this month, which would seem to at least add credibility to the fact that Google is looking to expand its Home line into other form factors. That said, unlike the Home Mini, which is rumored to be announced at Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 event next week, it’s not clear yet if the so-called Home Max will also be showing up.
