Why you should keep an extra clothes hanger in your Living room

Clothes hangers are great for, you know, hanging clothes. But they have other uses which you might not think of.

Clothes hangers are great for, you know, hanging clothes. But they have other uses which you might not think of. Here's a very good reason to keep one, or a couple, in your living room.

If you are looking for some easy, inexpensive, impromptu storage, hang a couple on the wall to store your magazines or other reading material and keep everything neat and tidy. All Things Elsie used some strong aluminum silver ones from Muji (also note the equally affordable and cute washi tape "frame") but you can find comparable ones on Amazon.

IKEA had a similar idea and hung a series of their BUMERANG hangers in a nice tidy vertical line. The pink wall almost camouflages the wood hangers, making them look intentional and part of the room design.

Nina Holst went the opposite route. Look at how amazing her copper hangers stand out against the black wall. Brass hangers are also a really nice splurge, especially if you like that little hit of metallic.

But you don't have to go the fancy route. When spotted on Bungalow 5, these two ordinary objects combined almost make art. Not to overstate things too much, but there's something austere and sculptural about this basic black and white vignette with a bent, mangled metal hanger.

And it's not just for living rooms, of course. Hang a couple next to your bed for nighttime reading. This set up, spotted on Nordic Days, also fills the art + storage = minimalism decor formula.

From there, you can just have fun with it, adding style to your storage by decorating the hangers themselves. These decoupaged colorful floral wooden ones, from The Crafted Life, would look so adorable on a wall (magazines or no!).
