Coimbatore: A National level Hackathon titled "Smart Agrothon 2023" was organised by Karpagam College of Engineering recently.
The event started with a welcome address by Dr Ravichandran, Coordinator of "Smart Agrothon 2023".
It was followed by an inaugural address by Dr P. Vijayakumar, Principal of Karpagam College of Engineering, who briefed about the evaluation process by eminent jury members and the intermediate stages of “Smart Agrothonâ€.
He outlined that 420 innovative ideas from the student batches across the nation were submitted for four themes to meet the problem statements.

Based on the preliminary assessment by industry experts, 110 teams were instructed to submit their solutions.

Considering the feasibility of the solutions suggested 41 teams are selected for participation in the grand finale.

The ceremony was followed by an inspiring session by the chief guest Suganya Selvaraj, Project Lead, Startup Tamil Nadu who emphasized on the initiatives taken by the Government of Tamil Nadu to promote startup culture among college students by means of the Hackathon scheduled by academic institutions.
The evaluation process started and eminent theme-wise industry experts namely Shyam Prashad Rajasekaran, Co-founder and CEO, Veg Route Agri Tech Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, M. Mariappan, Regional Manager, Sunil Chemical Industries Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore, S. Balamuralikrishna, Farm Modernizer, Agrotech, Pollachi, and V.S. Ramesh, Director, STEPS Knowledge Services Pvt. Ltd, Coimbatore.
The jury assigned batch-wise tasks to all the participants within a deadline of 24 hours. Based on the Agrothon tasks assigned to each batch, the participating teams worked enthusiastically day and night to include additional features to their existing prototype.

The consolidated Theme-wise prize winners are felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- for the first prize and Rs. 10,000/- for the second prize.

Dr R. Vasanthakumar, Chairman, Karpagam Institutions, Coimbatore emphasized the importance of Hackathons and encouraged the student community to provide solutions to agriculture-related problems.
He also distributed cash prizes and certificates to the winners of each theme. In addition, "Startup TN" has given a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- to the winners of Smart Agrothon 2023.
