The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor, V Geethalakshmi felicitated the top five rank holders in the reservation list for Government School students by awarding them certificates.
Coimbatore: The first phase of the certificate verification process for students of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on the basis of 7.5 percent reservation for students studying in Government Schools for classes 6 to 12 began on Thursday.
The Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, V Geethalakshmi felicitated the girl students who secured the top five positions in the rank list.
Speaking to reporters later, the Vice-Chancellor said, "A total of 7,755 applications were received for the 7.5 percent reservation for Government School students.
These applications have been sent to the School Education Department and 6,602 eligible applications have been selected after examining their academic progress in Government Schools from Classes 6 to 12. Subsequently, the rank list for them was prepared and the process of verifying the counselling certificate for 413 undergraduate seats took place. The students along with their parents participated.
Certificates have been awarded to the girl students who have secured the top 5 ranks in the rank list. Accordingly, Aishwarya, a student from Tirunelveli district, secured the first rank with 196 cut-off marks out of 200.
She has expressed interest in pursuing B.Sc. from Coimbatore Agricultural University. Similarly, Gokula Indira, a student from Sivaganga district who scored 194 marks in Madurai College, Sridevi, a student from Pudukkottai district who scored 93.5 cut-off marks expressed their desire to study in Tamil medium at the Coimbatore Agricultural University College. Subsequently, certificates have been issued to them.
The Government will bear the entire cost of the course, including hostel fees for students who are selected on the basis of 7.5 percent reservation. Students do not have to spend a single penny and those who do not get a seat in the 7.5 percent quota can attend the counselling for the general category and study the preferred course by paying a fee.
Admissions to Undergraduate courses in 18 direct constituent colleges and 28 private constituent colleges functioning under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) have begun. The counselling for the general category will be held on January 8 and classes for them will begin in the first week of January.
