Coimbatore's Karpagam College of Engineering has organized a one-week orientation program for its first year B.E and B.Tech students from November 18 to 28.
About 300 B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering students participated on the third day of the freshers' induction program along with their parents.
The program began with a welcome speech by Dr. P Karthigaikumar, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, after which dignitaries participated in the lighting of the lamps.
Dr. P Vijayakumar, Principal of Karpagam Engineering College addressed the gathering and highlighted the college's strengths in terms of its curriculum, co-curriculum, extracurricular activities, placement and training. The Principal also detailed the college’s history, achievement, and career opportunities.
Dr. K Ramakrishnan, Professor of Mathematics, introduced the Chief Guest, motivational speaker, Kovai Dhanapal. The Chief Guest in his speech highlighted the value of education in a student's life. He quoted the Thirukkural chapter ‘Kooda Natpu’ to explain the importance of friendship. "College is the finest place to make friends and these friends will play a key role in a student's life, more than parents and teachers. Students who pay attention to their professors are successful people. Involve yourself deeply in your coursework and be passionate about your work. Remain faithful to your parents and do not betray them because parents are God's gift, as well as future-makers for their children," exhorted Dr. K Ramakrishnan. In conclusion, Dr. K Ramakrishnan motivated the students by narrating the story of ‘Michael S Dell,' the CEO of the computer manufacturing company 'Dell’.
The Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr. V Tamilselvan rendered the vote of thanks.
As a unique tradition to conclude the event, students along with parents released balloons into the air as a 'Note to Heaven.'
