The Karpagam Academy of Higher Education organized a special lecture on the occasion of International Mother Language Day which was celebrated on February 21, highlighting the excellence and legacy of language.
Coimbatore: A special lecture was organized at the Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, on Monday to mark International Mother Language Day which is celebrated on February 21, every year.
Karpagam University had organized a special lecture to promote the Tamil consciousness and affinity toward the ‘Mother Tongue’ Tamil. The program was organized on behalf of The Tamil Forum, Department of Languages, Karpagam Academy of Higher Education.
Dr. R Madan Kumar, Coordinator, Tamil Division, Department of Languages, KAHE welcomed the gathering. The event was presided over by the Principal of Student Welfare, P Tamilarasi. Highlighting the pride of the Tamil language and the excellence of Tamils, P Tamilarasi said, "Every single person here should be proud to be born Tamils and let us all vouch that everyone signs by using the first letter of our names in our mother tongues.†Dr. N V Balaji, Principal, Field of Arts, Science and Anthropology greeted the gathering and urged the need for education in the mother tongue.
Dr. R Jagadeesan, Head of N Mahalingam Centre for Tamil Studies of Kumaraguru Educational Complex and a Scholar of The State Archaeology Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, delivered the keynote address. He conveyed the antique nature of the Tamil language through visual representations, depicting the stages of development of the Tamil language from the Stone Age to the present.
The winners of the competitions which were held as part of the occasion were felicitated toward the end.

C Sudarshan, a second-year student of B.Sc. Mathematics won the first prize in the essay writing competition.

J Rupasree of 2nd year, B.Sc. Computer Science secured the first prize in Poetry Competition and J A Sanobar Fathima of 2nd year B. Sc. Bio-Chemistry won the first prize in Painting were awarded certificates
Later on, everyone present at the meet took a pledge observing International Mother Language Day. Assistant Professor of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Arusamy proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the meeting.
