Coimbatore: Professor Dr. T Parimelazhagan, Faculty of Department of Botany, Bharathiar University has been nominated as a Fellow of Royal Society of Biology (RSB), United Kingdom. He is the first from the varsity elected as the first fellow to RSB from Bharathiar University.
Prof. Parimelazhagan has been conferred this esteemed position with consideration to his contributions made in the field of Biological Sciences (Bioprospecting of Medicinal Plants). He has registered under his name, four patents which are of ample economic and reverberant significance pertaining to our culture and medical ethnicity. This has opened new avenues to prove the scientific validation of our own traditional systems of medicine.
He was also awarded with the Mid-Career award under UGC Faculty Research Promotion Scheme by University Grants Commission, Government of India this year, for his research calibre in exploring ethnobotanical knowledge and bringing about imminence between ethnic legacy and scientific community all over the world through his research publications.
Dr. P. Kaliraj, Vice Chancellor of the University lauded the fellow of RSB and affirmed that many more Professors from the varsity will be accredited soon.
