The University Grants Commission (UGC) in its revised academic calendar approved by UGC on Monday, said that the first-year classes for undergraduate and postgraduate courses can begin in November 1. Hence, the varsities have been asked to wrap up the admission schedule by October 30.
Previously, the UGC released an alternative academic calendar for higher education institutions on April 29, in which it had prescribed that universities can conduct their final-year or terminal semester examination from July 1 to July 15 and declare the results at the end of the month. And, classes on 1st year students should begin from September 1. However, due to pandemic the UGC revoked the proposal and has issued a new draft on Monday.
Under the draft guidelines, after commencing classes from November 1, institutions can provide an academic break from March 1 to 7. The first-semester exams can be held from March 8 to 26.
