Brother and Sister duo electrocuted near Ukkadam


A brother and sister, Salman (19) and Bhanu (16) of Masjid Nagar in Ukkadam were electrocuted when they came in contact with a live wire this morning.

As Bhanu had gone to the terrace to collect the dried clothes when it started raining in the area, she came in contact with the snapped live wire. After hearing the scream of his sister, Salman who rushed to rescue was also electrocuted.

Salman is working in Ukkadam fish market and doing a fish cutting and cleaning job. The death of two young people to electrocution has sent shock waves in the area. The South West monsoon started has intensified in the district and many parts of city and suburbs are getting heavy to modertate rains since morning. 

To avoid such incidents, People are asked to look out for snapped wires in the streets and avoid going out when it was raining heavily, accompanied with heavy lightning and thunder. Drying clothes in nylon lines instead of iron lines is recommended as the latter can conduct electricity.

Ukkadam police have registered a case and are investigating.
