Police Intensify Anti-Drug Operations with Early Morning Checks on Buses and Parcel Offices in Coimbatore

Coimbatore police conducted extensive anti-drug inspections on omni buses from neighbouring states and parcel offices early Tuesday morning. Using sniffer dogs, officials checked passenger luggage and parcels.

Coimbatore: With the Tamil Nadu government stepping up efforts to curb the movement of narcotic substances, police in Coimbatore have intensified surveillance and enforcement activities across key transit points in the city.

Officials said continuous raids and inspections are being conducted in various parts of Coimbatore to prevent the smuggling and distribution of banned drugs. The intensified action comes a day after a review meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu Prohibition and Excise Minister Vignesh, during which officials were instructed to strengthen anti-drug operations.

Following the directive, police teams carried out surprise inspections early Tuesday morning on omni buses arriving in Coimbatore from Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Passenger luggage, parcels and other belongings were thoroughly checked with the help of sniffer dogs trained to detect narcotic substances.

In addition to bus inspections, enforcement teams also conducted checks at several parcel service offices across the city. Parcels arriving from outside districts and states, as well as those scheduled for dispatch, were carefully examined for any suspicious contents that could indicate drug smuggling attempts.

Police officials also issued advisories to omni bus drivers and conductors, instructing them not to permit the transport of narcotics or suspicious parcels. They were urged to immediately alert authorities if they come across any such information or suspicious activity during their operations.

According to police sources, the anti-drug enforcement drive is part of a sustained campaign to create a drug-free environment in the city. Similar inspections and monitoring activities will continue at regular intervals across Coimbatore to prevent the smuggling of narcotic substances into the city and ensure strict enforcement of anti-drug laws.
