Villagers demand closing down of polluting stone quarry

The residents of Irumporai village near Mettupalayam petitioned District Collector T.N. Hariharan saying that their livelihood measures including farming and cattle rearing has been affected to a private stone quarry, situated in Peraikottam Pudhur area.

Due to blasting of rocks which produce high decibel impact, pump sets are in a state of disrepair. The noise and air pollution caused by the quarry is immense. Children and old people are affected by the noise pollution. The petitioners said.

The petitioners demanded that the district collector intervene and close down the polluting quarry from the area.
