City- based Environmentalist Osai Syed has been working hard to stop felling trees in the city. He has played an instrumental role in transplanting many tress which were to be axed down for road -widening projects and gave them new lease of life.

Seeing his work in replanting and rehabilitating trees Forest Officials of Gadag had sought his help in relocating 500 trees, which faced the threat of axe. The Hubli-Gadag road widening project requires nearly 500 trees to be cut and axed down. The officials instead of axing them down reached out to Osai Syed to help them in relocating the trees.

While speaking to Simplicity about it Osai Syed shared that "I was approached by Chief Conservator of Forest Manjunath for this project. I reached Karnataka on May 31st and started the first phase of work.On the first day I identified 5 trees and with the help of forest department relocated them to nearby government land. All the trees are more than 15 year old and we have made sure that even the branches of the tree are intact.

“This phase by phase work will ensure that all the 500 trees are relocated to nearby Government-owned land. It was amazing to see the response of forest rangers, forest officials, and ministers. They extended all possible support, be it manpower or equipment’s which the made the process very easier. I even trained about 50 Forest Rangers in the process of relocating tress. Yesterday we finished relocating the last tree and it was wonderful to see the Karnataka State Chief Minister come in person and appreciate the work. .It’s good to see that the message of saving and replanting trees have reached cross states and I hope that it gets spread all over India and no trees are felled in name of urbanization." Osai Syed said.

Syed was also approached by Andhra Government for similar work.
