Federal Skill Academy aims to train more students

The Federal Skill Academy (FSA) run by the Federal Bank as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility has planned to train 900 students in their two centres in the South in the academic year 2016-2017.

Briefing media persons here on Saturday, Shalini Warrier, COO of Federal Bank limited said that around 376 students have been trained so far by the institute in various fields including welding, air condition mechanics, heating ventilation and refrigerator mechanics.

“While 240 students have been trained in one year in the centre in Cochin, 136 students have been trained in the centre in Coimbatore. We are planning to train upto 450 students in each of the centre in the next year,” she said.

Warrier also claimed that around 80 per cent of the students from Coimbatore have been placed, which is higher compared with 70 per cent in Cochin. The centres are training 30 deserving students at a time in separate batches.

Drop outs from Schools, Colleges and between the age of 18 and 25 are eligible to apply for the 100 per cent scholarship CNC Machine Operator Cum Programmer Course, offered by the centre.

The Centre has also planned to start a separate training programme for women in Terracotta Jewellery making, the pilot programme of which would begin in three months in Cochin.

“We are also planning to start new centres in other citifies and locations would be identified soon,” she said.

D. Sampath, CGM and Head Network II of Federal Bank said that around 60 per cent of the transactions were digital.

“We are planning to expand our digital footprint and have aimed at reaching 20,000 merchants through our Corporate Fed Mobile application. We also have a special application for corporates and SMEs and 300 people are using it so far. This will increase by 10,000 in the coming years,” added Sampath.
