With the Assembly elections conducted in Coimbatore District on April 6 in a smooth manner, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT are being guarded vigilantly amidst tight security along with150 CCTV cameras monitoring the campus of the Government College of Technology on Thadagam Road.
Coimbatore: With the Assembly elections conducted in Coimbatore District on April 6 in a smooth manner, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT are being guarded vigilantly amidst tight security along with150 CCTV cameras monitoring the campus of the Government College of Technology on Thadagam Road.
All EVMs and VVPAT from the 10 Assembly constituencies of Coimbatore district were brought to the GCT campus on Thadagam Road, amidst tight security on Tuesday night. The machines were placed in tightly secured rooms in the order of the polling booths. All the rooms where the voting machines are stored in have also been locked and sealed in the presence of the political candidates' agents, election observers, the District Collector and the Commissioner of Police.
A master control room has also been set up at the college campus. The huge 'TV' screens on the campus are equipped with live footage captured by 150 cameras, 70 of which monitor the security rooms where the machines are stored and 80 cameras fitted to monitor the entire campus.
As many as 500 people have been recruited by the Central Security Force and the State Police on the premises, which are under five- tier security.
Kamal Haasan arrived at the campus along with party cadres to survey the security provided for the EVMs and VVPAT. Similarly, other party candidates too visited the GCT campus to review security arrangements at the vote counting center.
