People in fear as TNSTC buses operated by temporary drivers meet with accidents

Following the indefinite strike by the TNSTC employees, more than 90% of buses went non-operative here starting from Friday.

Coimbatore, January 8

Following the indefinite strike by the TNSTC employees, more than 90% of buses went non-operative here starting from Friday.

After the government and the TNSTC union failed to settle amicably, the state government decided to depute temporary drivers to operate the buses to regain normalcy.

However, the attempt seems to be ineffectual after a temporary driver operating bus number 76 between Gandhipuram and Marudhamalai stretch on January 7 banged on a senior citizen who was walking on the pavement causing him sustain severe injuries.

In yet another incident in Chennai on January 6, a temporary driver caused an accident leaving the man succumb to his injuries.

Following these incidents, public are struck in fear as these temporary drivers could lack experience to handle driving. Citing inexperience, people especially those travelling to hilly terrains like Ooty are reluctant to use buses driven by temporary drivers.
