More than 45 species of birds spotted in a matter of hours in Chinnavedampatti canal!
A Coimbatore based bird watcher had identified upto 45 species of birds in Chinnavedapatti Lake here.
In a matter of hours, K. Selvaganesh from the city had spotted approximately 373 birds belonging to the 45 species and have added his 12th checklist to the E-birds of India online portal.
With various organisations including the Chinnavedapatti Kulam Paathugaappu Iyakkam involving in activities like de-silting the lake and cleaning the canals that take water to the lake, environment based activities like creating a checklist of birds has been welcomed by the those involved in reviving the lake.
Recently, a group of activists along with parents and students of various schools participated in a bird watch programme on the lake to see if new birds can be added. Along with helping the better understanding of the faunal diversity of the lake, bird watching programmes also help in educating kids about the importance of birds and their contribution to the lake ecosystem.
Creating a checklist of every lake in the city would invariably help identify the usage of the lakes by birds and how different species of birds use different lakes.
