TNSTC Bus Driver Arrested Under POCSO Act in Coimbatore

Shankar (36), a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) driver from Thondamuthur, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by the Perur All Women Police Station following a complaint filed by the family of a four-year-old child.


Coimbatore: A Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus driver has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Thondamuthur near Coimbatore.

The accused has been identified as Shankar (36), a resident of Thirumurugan Nagar in Vanchiyamman Nagar, Thondamuthur. Police said he is employed as a driver with the State Transport Corporation.

According to the police, the incident occurred when Shankar had visited the residence of a close relative in a neighbouring locality. During his visit, he allegedly lured the four-year-old girl, who was playing outside the house, into the residence and sexually assaulted her.

The child later informed her parents about the incident, following which they lodged a complaint with the Perur All Women Police Station.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act and launched an investigation. Shankar, who allegedly attempted to evade arrest, was apprehended by the police and produced before a court.

He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
