Subsidy for Banana Saplings in Kinathukadavu - Horticulture Department Announcement

Kinathukadavu Horticulture Department announces subsidy for banana saplings as intercrop in coconut farms. Farmers can avail Rs. 10,000 per hectare under the State Horticulture Development Scheme.

Coimbatore: The Horticulture Department in Kinathukadavu has announced a subsidy scheme for banana saplings as part of the State Horticulture Development Scheme. This initiative aims to promote intercropping of banana in coconut farms, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity in the region.

According to Jamuna Devi, Assistant Director of Horticulture in Kinathukadavu, a target of 30 hectares has been set for banana intercropping in coconut farms within the Kinathukadavu block. The subsidy amount is fixed at Rs. 10,000 per hectare for banana saplings. However, each farmer is eligible for the subsidy for only one hectare.

The scheme prioritizes villages under the Kalaignar All Village Integrated Agricultural Development Programme, allocating 80% of the benefits to these areas, while the remaining 20% is reserved for other villages. Two varieties of banana saplings, Kathali and Nendran, will be provided under this scheme.

Interested farmers can contact the Horticulture Department office in Kinathukadavu for more details and to avail of this subsidy. This announcement was made by Jamuna Devi in a press release issued today (Oct. 3).

The subsidy scheme is part of various government initiatives aimed at improving agriculture in the Kinathukadavu region. By encouraging intercropping, the Horticulture Department hopes to optimize land use and increase farmers' income through diversified crop cultivation.
