DVAC Searches Highways Engineer’s Residence in Coimbatore in Road Works Corruption Case

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday searched the residence of a Highways Department engineer in Coimbatore in connection with a corruption case relating to alleged irregularities in State Highways road works undertaken in 2022.

COIMBATORE: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday conducted a search at the residence of a Highways Department engineer in Coimbatore in connection with a corruption case relating to alleged irregularities in State Highways Department road works.

The search was carried out at the residence of a Deputy Superintending Engineer attached to the Construction and Maintenance wing of the Coimbatore Circle, who has reportedly been named as the sixth accused in the case. A 10-member DVAC team led by an Additional Superintendent of Police carried out the search, while armed police personnel were deployed in the area for security.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities in road projects undertaken in 2022, when E.V. Velu was serving as Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports. The DVAC has booked former minister and several Highways Department officials and a contractor over allegations that funds were released for road works that were either incomplete or not executed.

According to the complaint, the case was registered based on allegations that payments were sanctioned under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme for road works that had not actually been carried out. After obtaining sanction from the State government on June 23, 2026, the DVAC booked the accused under various sections, including provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The engineer searched in Coimbatore is accused of having been involved in the alleged irregularities during his tenure as Divisional Engineer in charge of NABARD and rural roads works in Erode.

As part of the ongoing investigation, DVAC teams conducted searches at multiple locations across Tamil Nadu, including premises linked to E.V. Velu and other officials named in the case.
