Residents of Chettipalayam in Coimbatore have petitioned the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, alleging severe health and environmental concerns due to the recurring burning of garbage in a vacant private plot within a residential locality.
Coimbatore: Growing concerns have emerged among residents of the Star Supreme residential locality in Chettipalayam, Coimbatore district, following repeated incidents of garbage being illegally dumped and set on fire in a vacant private plot in the area.
According to residents, the continuous burning of waste has resulted in dense toxic smoke spreading across the neighbourhood, particularly during night hours, causing severe discomfort and breathing difficulties for the public.
In response to the issue, the Star Supreme House Owners Welfare Association has submitted an urgent petition to officials of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board seeking immediate action.
In the petition, residents alleged that unidentified persons have been using the vacant land as an unauthorized dumping site and that the repeated burning of garbage has led to serious environmental pollution and public health concerns.
The association further stated that children, senior citizens and individuals suffering from respiratory illnesses are among the worst affected by the toxic fumes.
Residents have urged the district administration and Pollution Control Board authorities to conduct an immediate field inspection, initiate stringent action against those responsible for dumping and burning the waste, and take permanent remedial measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the Kinathukadavu Assembly constituency area.
