It was a joyous day at the Avinashilingam University, as the students dressed like angels, kings, disciples and Mother Mary enacted the life of Jesus Christ and celebrated Christmas. More than 50 students were part of this drama, who enthralled the audience through their spell-bound performance.
Students also sang some famous Christmas and New Year carols and engaged the crowd.
Dr. P. R. Krishnakumar, Chancellor, Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore presided over the celebrations.
In his presidential address, he appreciated the students and said that 'they did not act but they performed'.
The Christmas message was given by Pastor Lawrence M. Arumainayagam, Senior Pastor, Intouch Fellowship International, Coimbatore. He said that the nativity play was incredible. And further remarked that, It was one of the best nativity play he has ever witnessed in Coimbatore. 'Christmas is the celebration of birth of Christ, the beginning of the relationship between God and man', he said.
Vice Chancellor Dr. (Mrs.) Premavathy Vijayan greeted the gathering and appreciated the students and the coordinators for the wonderful Christmas celebration. She also read the Christmas wishes sent by Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram, Managing trustee, Avinashilingam University.
Finally, the Santa arrived and distributed sweets to the audience. Dr.(Mrs.) Vasantha Kalyani David, Professor, Department of Computer Science proposed the vote of thanks. Students from all departments witnessed the celebrations along with the faculty members.
