Teachers petition district collector to ensure that their salary is paid in cash

Teachers of the art stream have petitioned the district collector to ensure that their respective salaries are paid in cash until the currency exchange trouble is solved. A group of art teachers visited the district collectorate and presented their petition to the collector.

After presenting their petition, Rajkumar, President of Art Teachers union interacted with the media. He said “On one hand the Government has fixed a limit of Rs 2,000/- per day to exchange cash. There is a long line of people at the banks and other financial institutions who are authorised to exchange currency.  Employees are left with no choice but to wait in the long queues to exchange cash. This has impacted the routine work activities in the various Government offices.”

“In this regard, we have petitioned the district collector to ensure that our salaries are paid in cash. To avoid the situation efforts have to be taken to allow the government employees to withdraw their salary in full or to issue this month's salary as cash through the government's treasury.”

“The government should consider this request and take immediate action as a similar system is in place in banks where the bank employees can change their currency in the respective banks which they are working.”

Employees of the state and central government receive their salaries on the 30th of every month. On this day there will be an increase in people waiting to draw cash at the various ATMs. Teachers will be forced to take a day’s leave in order to withdraw cash. Also all the teachers may not be able to visit to the bank in which they hold an account.

“So till the currency exchange problem is resolved the government should take necessary steps for the distribution of salary through the treasuries as cash. We request the prime minister, chief minister and all the concerned officials to take necessary steps for distribution of salary through the government treasuries.” Rajkumar said.
