M.N. Subramanian, State and District Secretary of Tamilnadu Washermen Central Union today submitted a petition to the District Collector TN Hariharan seeking free housing plots for people of washer-men community. Present along with him were hundreds of people from the washermen community.

In the petition Subramanian stated that “More than 400 washer-men are living in this city. Struck in poverty, they are unable to pay rents for homes, while most of them are homeless. Hence, we have requested to provide with free housing pattas for all washer-men families and help them improve their living'.
