Avinashilingam University for Women observes Vigilance Week

Vigilance Week is observed from 31st October to 5th November. This year the theme of Vigilance week is ‘Public Participation in Promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption’. Keeping in mind this theme, Avinashilingam University for Women celebrated Vigilance week today. The focus was to sensitise the public to refrain from giving and receiving bribes.

Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Mutharasu, inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering regarding the need to abolish bribery.

In this regard the students of this university organised a walkathon. The students raised slogans and carried placards about anti-bribery and the Vigilance theme for this year. More than 2,000 students participated in this walkathon.

Speaking to SimpliCity, Paramasivam, Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank said “The aim of Vigilance Week celebrations is to sensitise public to refrain from encouraging taking or receiving bribe. We have targeted students who are the future of our country and women in particular because when a woman is educated the entire family will be educated. We are happy that we have reached out the message on corruption to so many people.” As a part of their future plans, such awareness initiatives will be organised in many more colleges in the future.

In his special address to the women audience of this university, Dr. P. R. Krishnakumar, Chancellor, Avinashilingam University for Women said “Sadly our education system does not teach students how to deal with corruption. We must have our eyes and ears open and be constantly vigilant about what is going on around us. As citizens, we must also be aware of the rules and laws that we have in place to deal with corruption. Vigilance Week must not be just a week-long celebration, instead it must be celebrated throughout the year.” He thank Canara Bank for organising this initiative in the our University campus.
