Man kills wife over christening of new born child.

Police arrested Murali of Podanur on charges of murdering his wife Edwina Vamathevi (24) over christening of their new born child.

Police said that an interreligious couple have married three years back and a girl child was born to them a couple of months back. Frequent quarrel ensued between them as to the christening their girl child, in tune with the Hindu faith.

As Edwina had named the child as Riya, Murali took exception to it and wanted to rename the child. In the quarrel that ensued between Murali and Edwina, the former strangulated his wife leading to her death.

Police investigations revealed that Murali had strangulated his wife as she refused to rechristen the female child with a Hindu name.
