Highest Ticket checking earnings by Salem Division, Southern Railway, on a single day

With a view to prevent railway passengers travelling in trains without valid ticket or carrying luggages unauthorisedly, the Commercial Branch of Salem Division, Southern Railway is taking all necessary steps on a regular basis, by way conducting surprise checks in railway stations and trains, fortress checks (during which all the entrances of a particular station are covered and tickets checked), etc. 

Since three consecutive holidays happened this weekend, anticipating huge rush in trains and the resultant ticketless travelling thereof, a team of Commercial Branch and RPF Branch of Salem Division, undertook a special ticket checking drive in 41 trains in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur and Mettupalayam, under the direct supervision of and Sri A. Vijuvin, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem. 46 officers, ticket checking staff and inspectors of Commercial Branch and 11 RPF personnel were deployed in this special ticket drive that was carried out on 27.08.2017-Sunday, from 00.00 hrs (i.e. midnight of 26.08.2017) to 24.00 hrs. 

During the check an amount of Rs.4,69,342/- (Rupees four lakhs sixty nine thousand three hundred and forty two) was realized by way of ticket/luggage fares and penalty from 1089 persons. Of these 1084 were ticketless travelers (Rs.4,67,653/- realized) and 5 were carrying unbooked luggages (Rs.1,689/- was realized). This amount is the highest realization by way of ticket checking in a single day in Salem Division, the earlier highest being Rs.3,37,595/- that was realized on 02.04.2017. Sri Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, Salem, lauded the efforts of Sri P. Selvakumar, Sri Ramachandran, Sri J. Mohanraj, and other Commercial Branch Officers/staff in effectively checking the menace of ticketless travelling. He advised them to continue their efforts in this direction.
