Braving heavy rains that lashed Valparai the residents of Karumalaipatti village near Valparai staged a road roko demanding action against elephant attacks and depredations in Valparai taluk.

Staging the road roko at the 40th hairpin bend in Pollachi – Valparai highway the residents demanded action to stop the wild elephant menace of wild elephant attacks in the hilly and forested regions of Valparai taluk, which caused the loss of many lives in recent months.
A 62 year old man Velusamy who was trampled to death by a wild tusker yesterday while a cremation ceremony was going on.

Velusamy lost his life when he was chased and trampled to death by a wild tusker, near the cremation yard, when the people have gathered there to conduct the last rites of a deceased person.

In the mean while forest department personnel has doubled their efforts to capture the wild elephant which fatally attacked Velusamy.
