Villagers stage dharna with the body of victim killed in wild tusker attack near Valparai

The residents of Karumalaipatti village near Valparai staged a dharna with the body of 62-year-old Velusamy who was trampled to death by a wild tusker.



Velusamy was chased and trampled to death by a wild tusker, near the cremation yard, when the people have gathered there to conduct the last rites of a deceased person.

A lone tusker, which charged at the crowd trampled Velusamy, while other took their heels in sheer panic.



The locals staged a dharna, saying that they would not take the body of elephant attack victim until District Collector T.N.Hariharan and forest officials come to the scene, and give promise to protect them against while elephant depredations which are growing by day.
