Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated from today across the Nation and in the city of Coimbatore this Hindu festival is marked by installation of Ganesha Idols at homes and public places. Special poojas are being conducted in prominent temples like Eachanari Vinayakar temple and Puliakulam Vinayakar Temple.

It is believed that Lord Ganesha is considered as the god of prosperity and good fortune hence the devotees worship Ganesha on this auspicious day by offering Modaks (food made out of rice flour) and Erukkam Flower (crown lower) garland along with the usual pooja accompaniments.

Prasadhams made of green gram, black channa, modaks (steamed dumplings made of rice flour) were offered to the public in the temples. Than the usual colourful idols made of dyes, eco-friendly idols made of bio-degradable materials are the highlight for this year.

This year 'Jallikattu Vinayakar' is the hero of the day. "To mark the success of the historic Jallikattu protest that took place in the month of January, Jallikattu Vinayakar has been created", shared Saravanakumar an idol sculptor from the cit.

Pandals have been put in various parts of the city by Hindu Political Outfits showcasing huge eye-catching colourful idols. On the 27th August, the idols from these pandals will be taken on a procession and immersed in the water bodies as scheduled by the authorities.
