Minor accident reported due to unmanned level crossing, trains delayed.


Though minor, the accident caused at No.112 near Arthur due to unmanned level crossing has left damages to the Vridhachalam Salem Passenger (DEMU-Diesel Electric Multiple Unit T.No. 76850) causing delay of trains in the route to various destinations. Fortunately, no derailment or injuries have occurred during the accident. 



A tractor with 2 trailers tried to cross the track in a hurry and the trailer hit the rear end of the DEMU (NDPC) and the nose cone damaged leaving the trailer disconnected. However, the driver of the tractor left the trailer on the spot and fled the scene.

LP of Train No.76850 has reported that the tractor driver was wearing headphones and has not noticed the movement of the train. Exactly, at about 13.05 hrs. a DEMU with relief loco was sent to Chinna Salem, where the damaged DEMU has been stopped. Now, engineers from Golden Rock Workshop are examining the DEMU rake to ascertain as to whether the damaged rake can be moved as it is or it has be pulled back using the relief rake.

Because of the incident, T.No.56513 Karaikal- Bengaluru Passenger has been detained at Chinna Salem leaving a 2 hrs 5 minutes delay.
