But with fewer opportunities, the ultimate opportunist often finds himself at a place of a scavenger, scavenging from whatever is available.
While they have been following the statistics in various parts of the world, the same has also been found functioning inside the forests. In a recent find, three men were arrested by the Coimbatore Forest Division for scavenging the meat of a sambar deer that was previous hunted by a pack of wild dogs.
According to officials from the Forest Department, the accused S. Anbazhagan, N. Murughan and P. Raman from Mangarai were detained by the field staff of Mangarai beat in Coimbatore Range for illegal possession of deer meat inside the field.
On investigation, it was found that the men had cut the meat from the carcass of a sambar deer hunted inside the reserve by the wild dogs. They could have also scared away the wild dogs to retrieve the meat as the meat was relatively fresh.
