The ongoing JACTO-GEO strike of Government school teachers and Government employees demanding to implement three point charter of demands including regularization of services, implementation of eight pay commission recommendations and restoration of old pension scheme has adversely affected the functioning of Government school in the state.
In Coimbatore alone over 10,000 school teachers belonging to JACTO-GEO, an umbrella organization of over 70 Government employees organizations struck work today and staged a demonstration as part of the state wide protests staged by the association members.
Even though the district administration has put in contingency measures and deputed Training teachers pursuing B.Ed. part time teachers and in some schools the strike would pose problem for the smooth running of schools as the JACTO-GEO leadership has announced that today’s strike is only a precursor to indefinite strike which would be launched on September 7.
The striking employees have demanded that the state government invite their representatives for talks to arrive at an amicable solution lest they might be forced to continue the strike.
The association members have demanded 20% hike in salary as an interim arrangement till the eight pay commission recommendations are rolled out.
