The 83rd Scientific Workers Conference was held at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) at the conference attended by State level extension officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Marketing, Seed Certification, Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry and TNAU Scientists, various issues related to agricultural crops and technologies were discussed.

Intervention and suggestions to field problem of farmers raised by the extension officials were given by scientists of TNAU. Key interventions sought includes soil health card, varietal development for oilseeds, pepper, horse gram, ratoon paddy, off season moringa, remote sensing based crop assessment and fertigation schedule for crops.
It was suggested to take up hybrid vegetable seed production at states horticulture farms with technical support of TNAU.
Dr.Maheswaran, Director of Research, TNAU briefed on the research approaches that include non-puddled rice, crop stage specific bio-inoculants, high density cashew, turmeric portray nursery, grafting in brinjal, enhanced fruit fresheness remote sensing based crop monitoring system and engineered crop system for pest management. He added that TNAU rice variety Co51 is recognized as a National variety and is popular in 13 State on India.

Gagandeep Singh Bedi, I.A.S., Agricultural Production Commissioner & Principal Secretary to Government, Govt. of Tamil Nadu in his key note address emphasized that extension officials can create happiness in the lives of farmers. He mooted the establishment of mentor agriculture centers in each districts to address issues on crop cultivation. He also emphasized the establishment of farmer friendly micro level processing units at farm level for value addition of produce.

Dr.K.Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU who rendered his presidential address underlined the research orientation of the University in addressing farmer issues and the necessity for strong linkage between extension officials and Scientists in the upliftment of farmers.
