"It's disappointing to learn that Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy did not utter a word about the plight of the farmers in Tamil Nadu nor did he assure any remedial measures to alleviate their situation during the Independence day address" alleged K.P.Ramalingam of DMK Farmers Wing at the protest held at South Thasildhar Office, this morning.

Opining the central and state government's as completely incompetent of safeguarding peoples' interests especially that of the farmers, hundreds of members of DMK, CPM, CPM(I), VCK took part in the protest and raised slogans against the both central and state governments.

The protestors alleged the BJP and ruling AIADMK government for being tight-lipped in announcing any solid welfare measure for the farmers' who have been pleading for ages.
"On 30th July, we submitted a petition to the CM seeking waiver of agricultural loans and also to urge the central government to form the cauvery management committee immediately. The CM accepted our petition and assured to take steps on the pleas put-forth. But, no action has been initiated so far" Ramalingam from DMK said.

The party representatives said that they will go on for a chain of protests if the state and central governments continue to act dumb against the pressing farmers' issue.
Senior leaders from DMK and all other participating parties took part in the protest. Traffic came to a standstill for nearly an hour due to the protest.
