The tree walk by Nizhal at the Kotturpuram Tree Park on Tuesday brought out some interesting facts about the various tree species.
The walk, conducted as part of the Madras Day celebrations, saw participants of all ages showing a keen interest on different trees.
The resource persons for the walk, Usha Vijay and Usha Sridhar, guided the participants through the park, and narrated several anectodes while explaining the various scientific benefits of the trees.
Once a dump yard
The park, which is located on the banks of Adyar river in Kotturpuram, was once a dumpyard before residents and members of the Nizhal converted it into a park containing native species of trees such as Punnai, Purasu, Ulakkai Palai and Neer Maruthu, which is also called Arjuna.
Nizhal would conduct tree walks at Tower Park in Anna Nagar and in the Neer Vanam of Chitlapakkam Eri.
