Altruism does not necessarily mean only noble deeds that help people or a community.. it may even be a small gesture which make ordinary people angels, who care for others even when they are not blessed with riches or money.
Here is a 13 year old girl, a ninth grader from Government higher sec. school, Sundakamuthur village who went all out to help NGO “Pasiyaara Soaru” by collecting money from her friends and schoolmates, in spite of the fact that she herself comes from a very humble background.
Meet Narmatha, daughter of a drinking water supply man who has to work hard to meet his ends. Narmatha came to know the good deeds of “Pasiyaara Soaru” through her father. This team works to serve the poor in many fronts. They serve food near Government hospital to the patients admitted in GH, particularly to pregnant women of gynecology ward.
Not everybody has enough money for their all three meals, Raja Sethumurali, the Founder of Pasiyaara Soaru collects money from good souls and feed the patients and attenders who undergo treatment at the GH.
Narmatha heard about their noble service and she decided to contribute, even if it's small. Initially, she went about collecting money from her friends, 1 and 2 Rupees and she some who managed to collect Rs.150. She went further and spoke to her teachers and students of every class in her school and finally collected Rs. 4862 in total.
It’s not only about the money, it’s all about the girl’s gesture. And, Pasiyaara Soaru did the right thing by felicitating her on the eve of Independence day celebrations. Narmatha was given the honor of hoisting the National flag at their Independence day celebrations at Periyar nagar, Sengal kaalavai near Kulathupalayam.
“I have my parents to take care of me but there are many children who are very poor and don’t have enough money for food and how can they celebrate Diwali? Sethumurali uncle told me about such children and I wanted to help them.
So I first collected money from my friends and then from my teachers and other school mates. I am very happy that I was able to this and will continue to do help such children”, says Narmatha in her innocent voice. She wants to join the police to help others, a big dream for a compassionate kid.
“We want more Narmathas to come forward to help the needy. We have always had people from such humble backgrounds helping us magnanimously in our journey and this girl has set an example. You don’t need money to help others, you just need the heart to do it. We wanted to felicitate her and so we asked her to hoist the national flag in our Independence day celebration”, says Raja Sethumurali of Pasiyaara Soaru.
