The 71st Independence Day was celebrated at Salem Division of Southern Railway with patriotic fervor. Shri Hari Shankar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, Southern Railway, hoisted the tri-color and accepted the guard of honor presented by the RPF personnel of Salem Division.

While speaking on the occasion, Shri Hari Shankar Verma recalled the sacrifices by our great leaders for the freedom and paid his respect and homage to the martyrs.

He read out the message from Sri Vashishta Johri, General Manager, and Southern Railway. Hon’ble Minister for Railways will be dedicating the Extended Foot Over Bridge connecting to the second entry of Salem junction, the new VIP Lounge/Station Master Room at the Salem Junction and the new Foot Over Bridge at Samalpatti Railway Station, to the nation, by video conferencing from Goa soon.
He also said that with a view to better the cleanliness in Railway Stations and railway premises, all over Salem Division, a Fortnight Cleanliness Campaign is being conducted from August 16 to August 31 during which period, various awareness programs/cleanliness activities would be taken up. He expressed his satisfaction over the successful implementation of App based cab services at Coimbatore by Salem Division administration and expressed the hope that it would soon be extended to all important stations with a view to help rail passengers from being overcharged.

A talent Show by RPF Sniffer Dog Squad, and a cultural show by the children of Railway Schools at Salem and Erode were the highlights of the function. The function was attended by Shri Chander Pal, Addl. Divisional Railway Manager, and Shri Ponraj, Divisional Security Commissioner/RPF/Salem, and other Divisional officers, employees, and their family members in large numbers.
