District Collector T.N.Hariharan unfurled the National Flag and took the guard of honour to mark the 71st Independence day at VOC Grounds, this morning.
A.Amalraj, Commissioner of Police, Superintendent of Police, Dr.K.Vijayakarthikeyan, CCMC Commissioner and other top officials from various departments were present during the independence day celebrations at the VOC grounds.
Clad in colorful dresses, the students of various educational institutions added zeal to the celebrations by performing cultural events. The guard of honour was presented by armed reserve guards, home guards, national cadet corps and national service scheme.
Welfare aid for differently-abled and meritorious students were distributed during the event. The freedom fighters were also honored with prizes and monetary benefits.
