Political outfits including Periyar Dravida Kazhagam and VCK petitioned District Collector T.N.Hariharan to release Parthipan coordinator of Anti-Oppression forum who have been arrested by police on July 11 for being the brain behind the smuggling of pen drive into the central prison to hand it over to jailed Maoists.

Racecourse Police arrested Rasheed and Harihara Sharma of Thiruvananthapuram on charges of the smuggling a pen drive in to the central prison complex, when they came to visit a jailed Maoist including Anup and Cheena a month back.
The duo had visited the jail complex on the pretext of handing over clothes to Anup, a jailed Maoists.
When jail officials inspected the clothes it was found out a pen drive was hidden in it. Following which the prison authorities handed over the duo to the Racecourse police, who arrested them on three counts of charges of smuggling banned items inside a prison, preventing a public servant from carrying out his duty and issuing murder threat to a public servant. The duo who were produced in Judicial Magistrate court was remanded in judicial custody.
Anti-Oppression forum activist Dinesh said that “A false case was foisted on Parthipan when he went to give a complaint for banning sanctifying Vinayakar idols in Ukkadam as it would be hindrance for public transport”.
