The preliminary trials for the Double Decker Train services between Coimbatore and Bangaluru, were carried out recently by the Operating, Engineering and Electrical Branches of Salem Division, Southern Railway.
The trials were carried out successfully between Coimbatore and Jolarpet with 2 Double Decker Coaches and 1 power car hauled by an Electric Locomotive, via Coimbatore North, Tiruppur, Erode, and Salem, at 80 kph. During the trial, various aspects such as overhead traction connectivity, platform approach (both bottom and top) to Double Decker Coaches, and other aspects were checked.
A technical team headed by M. Prabhakaran, Sr. Divisional Electrical Engineer, Nallamuthu Manickam, Divisional Engineer,Mariappan, Divisional Engineer and M. Boopathiraja, Divisional Operating Manager carried out the preliminary trials for these two days who declared that there were no major issues found during the trial.
"A consolidated report will be sent to Southern Railway Headquarters based on which a full-fledged trial will be conducted with a full rake (mostly consisting of 8 double decker coaches, 2 power cars and one electric loco) at a speed of 100 kmph.
Officials from Southern Railway Head Quarters will also join during the full trial. Once the full trials are carried out, a report will be sent to Commissioner for Railway Safety, Southern Region, for his final approval", said Hari Shankar Verma, DRM Salem.
