In order to make Ooty a Zero plastic zone, Nilgiris District Collector Innocent Divya issued appointment orders to 24 anti-plastic campaign workers who would be manning Botanical Garden and Ooty Boat House to create awareness among tourists on the zero plastic usage and the need to make the world famous tourist town a Zero plastic zone.

The Self Help Group Women who have been deputed to this work would be engaged in slapping a spot fine of Rs.10 from the tourists who take plastic bags inside the Botanical gardens and the Ooty boat house.
A sticker would be pasted on the plastic bag thus carried and Rs.10 collected from the tourists as spot fine. Later the fine amount of Rs.10 would be credited in the name of Self Group Member who has been deputed to do the environmental protection duty.
More over steps have been taken to implement "No plastic rule" in all the 8 check posts, leading to Ooty from various places and the man staffing these check post would follow the same protocol of slapping spot fines on the tourists and travelers who enter Ooty with plastic bags.
